The Privilege of Having a Mediator

Daily Devotional – Saturday, November 16, 2024
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
1 Timothy 2:5-6 (NKJV)

I recently watched a video of a self-proclaimed prophet claiming that no one could reach God except through him. He was abrogating to himself the role of mediator between God and man. I found his claims disconcerting and blasphemous.

There is One Mediator

According to the Apostle Paul, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:5-6).

When Adam and Eve sinned, they could no longer freely approach God. Earthly priests presided over the sacrificial system, which God instituted to teach humanity about its need for a mediator.

Then the Mediator came down to earth as a human being. He earned this role and title by giving Himself as a ransom for humanity on the cross of Calvary. Only Jesus, then, is qualified to be the intermediary between sinful human beings and a righteous God.

The Privilege of Having a Mediator

Jesus alone is the ‘way’ to the Father. We don’t need false prophets and so-called men of God to reach God. Our Mediator, having assumed our nature, understands our predicaments and concerns. He knows how to present our burdens to the Father.

Today, if you are carrying burdens of sin, worry, fear, and so on, call on Jesus, your only Mediator. Let Him approach the Father on your behalf. If you have no words to express your feelings of guilt and shame, leave that to Jesus. What a privilege to have a God-Man Mediator!

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I am privileged and happy to have You as my Mediator. I hand over my burdens and worries to You, knowing You have my back.
