Plans are established by counsel; by wise counsel wage war.
Proverbs 20:18 (NKJV)
A budding contractor once resolved to remodel his home without asking anyone for help. He watched some videos, bought supplies, and started to take down walls. What should have been a simple project turned into months of stress. Later, he said that the problem wasn’t effort but being alone. He was excited, but he wouldn’t listen to people who had done it before.
The Quiet Strength of Listening
Solomon tells us that we shouldn’t try to get through life on our own. Advice shapes plans.
God made wisdom to flow through groups of people. The Lord wants us to get advice from mature Christians when we have to make a decision about family, ministry, work, or money. Strong plans usually don’t come from nowhere. They get stronger when they get honest, godly feedback.
In ancient days, wars needed careful planning, timing, and advisors you could trust. The stakes were high, and mistakes could cost a lot. Many of the choices we make are also important. Spiritual warfare, interpersonal disputes, and significant life changes necessitate more than mere impulse. They need prayerful advice from people who understand God’s word.
The Safety of Many Voices
Getting advice is not a sign of weakness but of humility. God often answers our prayers through other people. When we ask for wisdom, we set ourselves up for stability. Refusing counsel, however, leaves us vulnerable to avoidable mistakes. The Lord loves the heart that takes a moment to ask for help.
Think about the plans you have today. Before making any moves, seek wise counsel, especially those that are biblical in nature. Avoid letting arrogance or impatience dictate your choices. Instead, let divine wisdom steer your course.
Prayer
Lord, help me be humble enough to ask for advice and wise enough to follow advice that brings You glory.
