As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.
2 Chronicles 26:5 (NIV)
We all have an intrinsic desire to succeed. For this reason, we read books and watch videos that teach effective strategies for prosperity. In the process, we often forget that God has a definite formula to help us thrive.
King Uzziah knew this secret from a tender age and used it to lead Judah to prosperity for more than fifty years. Here is the formula. “He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD” (2 Chronicles 26:4).
Many motivational speakers do not teach that secret.
As Long as He Sought the LORD, He Succeeded
Here is a clearer rendition, “As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success” (2 Chronicles 26:5). Uzziah’s prosperity was contingent on continual dependence on and obedience to God.
David compared the truly prosperous individual to an evergreen tree:
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. (Psalms 1:3).
As long as we trust and obey the Almighty God, we will succeed, the same way a tree planted along streams of water bears fruit every season.
Understanding the Secret of God-Approved Success
If we succeed by any other method, our prosperity is not from God.
Further, when we delink ourselves from the Source of genuine prosperity, we become failures.
Finally, the divine definition of success is not just material acquisitions. Notice this: “But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God…” (2 Chronicles 26:16).
Determine today to seek in the Lord in all your ways and you will succeed in all you do.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me how to seek You.
