The Slippery Path of Always Wanting More

Daily Devotional – Monday, April 27, 2026
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1 Timothy 6:9 (NKJV)

John, a businessman, was known for being honest and hard-working. He provided for his family and did what was right. However, over time, he wanted more money and started lying to customers and making promises he couldn’t keep. He kept borrowing money, hoping things would get better, but they only got worse. In the end, he lost his business, his peace, and the trust of the people who once believed in him.

What Are You Really Chasing?

Today’s key text is not warning about having money but about excessive love of money. When the desire to be rich takes over the heart, it becomes dangerous. It leads people into temptation and traps that are difficult to escape. What seems like a simple desire can quietly pull someone into choices that bring pain and loss.

The Bible describes these desires as foolish and harmful because they never truly satisfy. Instead, they pull a person deeper and deeper, like someone being dragged underwater. The more one chases after wealth, the easier it becomes to ignore what is right, and the harder it becomes to turn back.

The Slippery Path of Always Wanting More

God wants us to trust Him as our provider and to find contentment in what we have. When our hearts are focused on Him, we are less likely to fall into the traps that come with chasing more and more. True gain is not found in riches, but in a life that is aligned with God.

Take a moment today to think about what you are pursuing. Ask God to help you be content and to make wise choices. Choose to put Him first in your life. When you do, you will avoid many hidden traps and find a peace that money can never give.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to love You more than anything else and to be content with what You provide.
