He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
John 1:11 (NKJV)
Every Christmas Eve, believers gather in churches to reenact the birth of Jesus and to welcome Him, symbolically, into their hearts and lives again. More than two thousand years ago, however, Jesus was an unwelcome guest in the world.
The Unwanted Visitor
Despite prophecies by Daniel and Micah and the dates and birthplace of the Messiah, Jews were not aware of the event. Actually, they needed three wise men from the east to break the news of the Messiah’s birth.
This unwanted visitor did not have a decent maternity bed and had to share a manger with cows. In addition, King Herod tried to kill Him. Indeed, as the Apostle John observed, Jesus “came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.” (John 1:11).
His Own Rejected Him
Is Jesus a welcome guest today, Christmas festivities notwithstanding? A non-Christian preacher once observed that the modern Christmas has nothing Christian about it. He cited the wild celebrations, immorality, and crimes committed during this festival as indicators of the erosion of the Christmas spirit.
While many may not agree with this critic, it is indisputable that professed Christians would not accept the teachings of Christ if He were alive. Indeed, while they celebrate Christmas, many live contrary to the teachings of Christ, which implies He is unwelcome in their lives. People are happy to celebrate Christmas, but they reject His commandment for holy living.
The Unwelcome Guest
Is Jesus a welcome guest in your life? How comfortable would you be if He came to spend some time with you? Are you aware of the signs of His second coming? Are you living in conformity with His will? Are you ready to receive Him?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I welcome You into my life and I look forward to Your soon return.

So sad indeed, He came to His own and His own received Him not,the same way they were caught unaware in His first coming, though they had the prophecies, they had the countdown, the same way Christ’s second coming get many off guard we having the same assurance, prophecies…he came unwelcomed,a humble babe in Bethlehem manger, received by humble shepherds, donkeys.. having attention only of the three wise men, this time ,He comes as the king of Kings, having attention of all the world. As the song says “The Market place is empty
No more traffic in the streets
All the builders tools are silent
No more time to harvest wheat
Busy housewives cease their labors
in the courtroom no debate
Work on earth has been suspended
As the King comes thro’ the gate
The King is coming”
Lord Jesus, may you ever be a Welcomed guest in my heart, come in and dine with me.
Powerful insights, Doc. Thank you.
