Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalms 119:105 (NKJV)
If you are walking in the dark at night, you do not need a floodlight to find your way home. A simple torch, illuminating just a few feet ahead, is a critical tool for the night trekker.
David was accustomed to walking in the night as he fled from Saul and other enemies. The torch used those days could produce only enough light to illuminate a small area around the person holding it.
Your Word is a Lamp to My Feet
e light would prevent one from wandering into dangerous paths or stumbling over hurdles. David not need to see his destination. Seeing where his feet stepped was enough to reach his destination.
In this context, David wrote, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
(Psalms 119:105). David was in spiritual darkness when he committed adultery with Bathsheba and killed Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband.
In such moments, God’s word became David’s lamp out of darkness. The son of Jesse found a merciful God in scripture. He found hope in times of desperation. When he turned to God in repentance, David found comforting light.
Your Word is a Light to My Path
David was not perfect. His concern was to be right with God at any one moment. He was content in knowing that God had forgiven him. The light at his feet told him he was on the right path.
In the spiritual darkness that engulfs the world today, only the Word of God can illuminate our path. The Bible reveals a loving, forgiving and caring God who takes care of our daily needs.
You may not know God’s word in its entirety, but you can follow the light He has given you to live a righteous life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, may I find in Your word the lamp that will illuminate my path day after day.
Amen…In my spiritual darkness may God’s light shine through my way.
It’s the light of redemption, it’s the light that will guide me home, He is the light the son of God.
Indeed, He is the light of the world
The world is in gross darkness, we are stumbling through the dark “For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people..” Isaiah 60:2- But Jesus the light of the world shall illuminate our paths with His glory.
God let us not sink in deep darkness, but shine your light through our way that we may not as the wicked stumbled through but that we may walk in the bright paths of righteousness.
Well-said, Doc
