And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”
Genesis 22:14 (NKJV)
Whenever I put myself in Abraham’s sandals on the day he was to sacrifice Isaac, I do not envy the patriarch.
What is going on in the mind of the old man as he asks the lad to carry the firewood? Isaac makes it even harder by asking, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” (Genesis 22:7).
God Will Provide
Abraham summons his inner strength and replies, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” (Verse 8). I doubt whether he answered immediately. The reply is more of an expression of faith than a statement of certainty.
Even in the darkest moment of his life, Abraham is convinced that God will provide. As he lifts the knife to slay his son, the old man still expects God to deliver. God rewards this faith by providing a ram to be sacrificed in place of Isaac.
Jehovah-Jireh Provides Today
And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.” (Verse 14). This was an important milestone in Abraham’s walk with God.
Jehovah-Jireh (The-LORD-Will-Provide) is still providing for His people. His specialty is those who have reached the end of the tether. When you think all hope is lost, He comes through for you.
Will you trust in the God who provides or you will seek alternative solutions, contrary to His will?
Prayer
Jehovah-Jireh, I know You will provide for my needs today and always, according to Your will.
