Trusting God in Uncertainty

Daily Devotional – Sunday, September 21, 2025
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.
Psalms 56:3 (NKJV)

Fear is part of life. We feel it when the doctor calls with results, when bills pile up, or when the future feels foggy. David knew fear firsthand. He wrote this psalm after the Philistines captured him in Gath (1 Samuel 21:10–15). Instead of pretending he was not afraid, David admitted it, but he also declared he would turn to God.

Peace in God’s Presence

A little child is woken by a thunderstorm. The lightning is bright, the thunder loud, and she feels small and helpless. She dashes into her father’s arms. The storm is still outside, but in her father’s embrace, she feels safe. The fear doesn’t disappear, but trust quiets her heart.

That’s how it is with us. Fear may not vanish the moment we pray. The storm may keep raging. But when we run to God, He holds us steady. Trusting Him does not mean ignoring our fears. Rather, it implies handing them over and believing He is bigger than what scares us.

Trusting God in Uncertainty

David’s words remind us that we don’t need to wait until we feel strong. Even in the middle of trembling, we can choose to trust. God’s promise (read Hebrews 13:5) to never leave us is stronger than anything that shakes us.

So today, be honest with God about what makes you afraid. Speak it out in prayer. Then remind yourself of how He has carried you before, and trust that He will do it again.

Prayer
Almighty God, You know what’s making me anxious right now. I don’t want fear to control me. Hold me close and remind me that I am safe in Your care. Even when life feels stormy, help me keep trusting You.
