Understanding Meekness from a Divine Perspective

Daily Devotional – Monday, May 12, 2025
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)

We live in a world that often celebrates boldness, control, and getting ahead. Being loud and assertive is sometimes mistaken for strength. Jesus, however, offers a very different perspective in today’s key text.

To many, “meek” sounds like being soft, shy, or even weak, but in God’s kingdom, meekness is actually a kind of deep, quiet strength. It is not about letting people walk all over you. It entails choosing humility, holding back when you could lash out, and trusting God to handle what you are unable to control.

Blessed are the Meek

Meek people don’t fight for the spotlight. They don’t seek revenge or try to prove themselves. Instead, they lean on God, believing that His justice, timing, and ways are better than our own.

Jesus lived this out perfectly. Though He had all power and authority, He chose to live humbly. He served others, loved those who hated Him, and willingly gave His life in obedience to God. That is the kind of meekness that changes the world.

Jesus says the meek will inherit the earth, not by force or ambition, but by trusting God. What the world chases through power plays, God gives freely to those who walk in humility.

Understanding Meekness from a Divine Perspective

Today, think about how you can practice meekness in your conversations, your responses, and your choices. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you let go of the need to always be right or in control. When you do, you will begin to see the quiet blessing that comes from walking closely with God.

Prayer
Help me to be meek and to let go of pride and the pressure to always have it together. Help me to trust You with the things I can’t fix and to reflect Your peace in a noisy world.
