…that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:7 (NKJV)
Life frequently presents difficulties that put our faith to the test and make us question why we have to go through misery. However, our key text underscored that hardships have a divine function: they strengthen and validate our faith, just as fire purifies gold.
Tested by Fire
Extreme furnace heat burns away the impurities in gold, resulting in a more valuable and pure metal. Similarly, God permits hardships to purify us, destroying any uncertainty, fear, or anything that prevents us from completely relying on Him.
A faith that has been put to the test and reinforced by adversity will last forever, whereas material riches fades. Every challenge we encounter serves as a chance to deepen our reliance and confidence in God, demonstrating the genuineness and steadfastness of our faith.
Understanding the Profound Purpose of Hardships
Peter tells us that we will be rewarded when we endure hardships and stay firm in our faith in Christ. On the day Jesus is revealed in glory, our faithfulness will bring honor, not only to us but ultimately to Him. We are being shaped for eternity by our momentary hardship.
Are you going through crushing trials? Keep in mind that you are being refined by God. Instead of asking, “What’s going on? How are You molding me though my trials, Lord?” Remain steadfast in your faith because while your hardships are fleeting, the rewards are permanent.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, though difficulties may be painful, thank You for using them to shape me for eternity. Help me to endure with faith.
