Unmatched Zeal for Christ

Daily Devotional – Friday, February 16, 2024
Then Paul dwelt two whole years … preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.
Acts 28:30-31 (NKJV)

In our families, neighborhoods, workplaces, and institutions of learning, there are many people who don’t know Christ. Why, then, does the gospel work remain largely undone? If the apostle Paul were alive today, he would marvel at our lack of zeal for Christ.

Incomparable Enthusiasm for Christ

After enduring a tortuous journey, Paul finally arrived in Rome and was placed under house arrest. Did he sink into depression, seeing that he was in prison and was likely to be sentenced to death? No! Three days after arriving in Rome, he called the leaders of the Jews to his home prison and preached to them.

Further, even after his teachings had caused divisions among the Jews, “Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house and received all who came to him, preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.” (Acts 28:30-31).

Unmatched Zeal for Christ

Paul utilized every opportunity to tell people about Jesus. Many people became Christians during the apostle’s incarceration. He did not give excuses. He had unmatched zeal for Christ and the gospel.

Do people around you know you are a Christian? When was the last time you tried to win a soul for Jesus? Which excuses do you give for not evangelizing? If Paul preached while in jail, what is preventing you from evangelizing, irrespective of the method you want to use? Are you zealous for Christ?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, open my inner eyes so that I may see and utilize opportunities for preaching your word wherever I am.

Amen! Indeed apostle Paul found a reason for living and service, one that even death can’t take away. In the dark prison cell facing death, he is still zealous to serve God. What a hope to be zealous always for Service to God. May I have the enthusiasm like Paul to always be a witness for Christ, by lips and by life.
