Up Your Game! You Have Stagnated For Long

You have been wandering around in this hill country long enough; turn to the north.

Deuteronomy 2:3 (NLT)

In sports, when a rival exceeds your achievements, you are forced to up your game. The Israelites, too, after many years of wandering in the wilderness, needed to move to the next level, towards the promised land.

God gave Moses an important message, “You have been wandering around in this hill country long enough; turn to the north.” Israel had been moving around Mt Seir for long.

The term ‘wander’ creates an impression of aimlessness, restlessness and hopelessness. Theirs was a mundane, uninspired and energy-sapping nomadic life.

Are there times you feel you are not making desired progress in life? Perhaps you are dissatisfied with your current job after many years of service. Maybe you feel you need another academic or professional qualification. Deep inside, there is a powerful urge to move a step higher.

The same can happen at a spiritual level.  When we rebel against God, we lose direction and engage in fruitless spiritual formalities. Even when we are in ‘good standing’ in our churches, it is possible to engage in legalistic rituals, “having a form of godliness but denying its power.” (2 Timothy 3:5).

God says it is time to move north – upwards. We need to take our careers, relationships, businesses and families to the next level. We must up our spiritual game through revival and reformation.

Lord Jesus, please hold my hand and take me to the next phase in all aspects of my life.
