What a Beautiful Sight!

Daily Devotional – Sunday, December 10, 2023
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Psalms 133:1 (NKJV)

Today I came across a beautiful scene on one of the city streets. A man, a woman, and a young girl entertained people with renditions of popular music from the past. The man was on the guitar, the wife had the microphone, and the daughter was cheering them on with her peculiar dancing.

Behold How Good and Pleasant

What struck me was the harmony between the three. They were working in concert. It was evident they had spent a lot of time preparing for this show. The crowd was impressed and gave generously in support of the entertainers. Watching the trio make a living while doing what they know best reminded me of the beauty of the family.

Thousands of years ago, David composed a captivating psalm whose opening states, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalms 133:1). What I saw today was a happy family, united in pursuit of their goals. I believe heaven was happy with this family.

What a Beautiful Sight!

That is what God desires for each family. Love, mutual respect, unity of purpose, forgiveness, and reconciliation are necessary characteristics of the ideal family. Indeed, my model family for today did not appear to be wealthy, but that did not stop its members from having smiles on their faces as they worked to earn their daily bread.

If you belong to a family that is not perfect (none is), focus on strengthening your bonds. Depending on your ability, reach out to your parents, siblings, spouse, children, and other relatives often. More importantly, invite God into your family through prayer, Bible study, and modeling the character of Christ. Let it be said of your family, “What a beautiful sight to behold!”

Prayer
Loving Father in heaven, I will cooperate with you to make sure my family becomes a beautiful sight to behold.
