What Are You Really Thirsty For?

Daily Devotional – Saturday, August 30, 2025
O God, You are my God. Early will I seek You. My soul thirsts for You. My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.
Psalms 63:1 (NKJV)

Think about the moment your phone drops to 1% battery. Suddenly, everything becomes urgent. You will stop what you are doing, look for a charger, and make sure your phone doesn’t die. Why do we often panic more over a phone battery than over a soul running on empty? What are you really thirsty for?

My Soul Thirsts for You

David wrote Psalm 63 while hiding in the wilderness of Judah, most likely during a time when he was fleeing for his life. The desert was dry, hot, and uncomfortable, but what troubled him more was being away from God’s sanctuary. David recognized that his deepest need wasn’t water or safety but for God Himself.

The psalmist was a man who prioritized God above all else. He was not seeking comfort, power, or even rescue first. He wanted God. He compared his longing for God’s presence to physical thirst in a desert, reminding us that the soul craves God the same way the body craves water.

What Are You Really Thirsty For?

Our world today is noisy and distracting. We chase after careers, scroll endlessly on our phones, and fill our schedules until we are drained. Often, we don’t realize that our hearts are spiritually dehydrated. Just like David, we need to recognize that only God can refresh and satisfy us. What are you really thirsty for?

If we truly believe God is our life source, then spending time with Him shouldn’t be a chore but a lifeline. Prayer, reading His Word, and worship are not “extras” but the water our souls need daily.

Prayer
Almighty God, give me a hunger and thirst for You above all else. When life feels dry and empty, let me run to You for refreshment.
