And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.
Luke 5:37 (NKJV)
Wineskins were produced from animal hides during the time of Jesus. The wineskin stretches as the wine expands during fermentation. New wine would ferment in old wineskins that were already bursting at the seams. Jesus illustrated a deep spiritual truth—the need for renewal—with this striking illustration.
No One Pours New Wine Into Old Wineskins
We occasionally cling to outdated routines, attitudes, and behaviors in our walk with Christ. These “old wineskins” may represent our customs, our cozy confines, or even our conception of God’s methods. The rigid customs and outdated religious institutions of the day were unable to contain the new covenant that Jesus brought with Him when He arrived.
Think about the old wineskins you may be clinging to in your life. Do you need to change any habits or ways of thinking in order to completely accept the new life that Christ offers? Our old selves cannot entirely contain the Holy Spirit’s transformational work, just as old wineskins cannot retain new wine.
What Kind of Wineskin Are You?
Which old wineskins are you clinging to that might be keeping you from accepting the new life that Christ provides to you fully? How can you create space in your life to receive the Holy Spirit’s new wine? What actions can you take right now to transform into a brand-new person in Christ? The new wine, or the new life in Christ, may not be comfortable, but it is worth it.
Prayer
Make me a new wineskin, Heavenly Father, and assist me in letting go of old beliefs, routines, and everything that prevents me from completely embracing Your transformative work.

Some christians have used this ‘old wineskins ‘ issue to allege that the Old Testament is outdated and some doctrines there were done with on the coming of Christ.
What’s the yake on this?
I consider it a case of erroneous interpretation of scripture. You cannot separate the New Testament from the Old Testament. Jesus did not come to abolish the Old Testament but to fulfil it.
