Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
Luke 11:1 (NKJV)
If you want to learn and become proficient in anything, learn from the best practitioners. You will benefit from their wealth of knowledge, skills and experience. Being an apprentice drastically cuts down your learning time.
Having Risen a Long While Before Daylight
The prayer life of Jesus was an apprenticeship opportunity for His disciples. In Mark 1:135, we read, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”
Similarly, Matthew records, “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” (Matthew 14:23).
Incidentally, Jesus spent long days in ministry after having intimate communions with His Father. The connection between effective prayer and productive ministry was unquestionable.
Lord, Teach us to Pray
The disciples longed for a close and friendly relationship with God. “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”” (Luke 11:1).
Like the disciples, we need to become Jesus’ prayer apprentices. He is the expert we need to learn from and model. If Jesus, the son of God, spent quality time communing with God, how desperately do we, fallible humans, need to pray? How important is it for us to learn the science and art of prayer from Jesus?
Prayer
Jesus, teach me to pray.
Amen..my prayer to.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
Romans 8:26.
Thank God for the help of the spirit when i do not know what to pray.
Amen, Doc. Thanks for the insight.
