When Blessings Overtake Us

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God…
Deuteronomy 28:2 (NKJV)

A little girl once walked home from school, unaware that her mother was following close behind with her favorite snack and a warm coat. When the girl finally turned, she was surprised. What she needed was already chasing her down. That’s what God’s blessings are like.

The Promise of Overflow

In Deuteronomy 28, Moses was reminding Israel just before they entered the Promised Land that if they listened to God and obeyed His voice, blessings wouldn’t just appear occasionally; they would overtake them. Picture that! God’s goodness is running faster than you, catching up to you, and covering your life.

For Israel, those blessings included safety, provision, and success. For us today, God’s blessings show up in different ways too. For example, we experience peace in the middle of chaos, strength when life is heavy, joy that does not depend on circumstances, and hope that keeps us going. He also provides for our needs in very practical ways.

When Blessings Overtake Us

The secret is unwavering obedience and a willing heart that trusts God knows what’s best. When we align ourselves with Him, we don’t have to run after blessings. Instead, blessings run after us.

Take a moment to ask yourself: Am I listening for God’s voice in my daily choices? Is there an area where I need to realign with Him? Remember, obedience is not merely earning blessings but also walking with the One who delights to bless His children.

Almighty God, thank You that Your blessings chase after me. Help me to trust You enough to obey Your voice and live in step with You every day.
