When Doing Nothing Is Faith

Daily Devotional – Thursday, March 19, 2026
Let him sit alone and keep silent because God has laid it on him.
Lamentations 3:28 (NKJV)

A man once lost an opportunity he had been waiting for and felt the need to explain, defend, and resolve everything right away. Instead, he got away from the noise and sat still. No phone, no talking, and no quick fixes. In that quiet moment, his anger slowly turned into clarity. Even though nothing on the outside had changed, what had felt like an interruption started to feel like an instruction.

Silence Before Solutions

Today’s key text urges us to sit alone in silence when we face trouble. This is not giving up in defeat but holding back because you trust God. Prophet Jeremiah asserts that it is God who allows us to fall into such situations. Even when His plans aren’t clear or fully understood, God is still in charge.

Therefore, silence becomes a way to grow spiritually. It fights the urge to react, complain, or try to control the outcome too soon. Silence allows you to reflect on God without hastily drawing conclusions. In this context, this silence fits with carrying the “yoke” well and being humble. It is a conscious decision to stay under God’s hand instead of trying to break away from it.

When Doing Nothing Is Faith

This doesn’t mean not doing anything or not caring. It means a measured response. There are times when it’s better to listen more and talk less. At those times, silence protects the heart from bitterness and keeps it open to growth. God often does deep work when there is less noise, not more talking or constant movement.

When you have to deal with something you didn’t choose, don’t react right away. Take a step back. Be quiet in front of God. You should accept that He has allowed this moment, even if you don’t understand it yet. Before you do anything, sit with Him. Let silence guide your response, knowing that He is there and has a purpose for it.

Pray
God, help me embrace the power of silence and reflection, especially when life brings me disappointments.
