But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings, and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.
Malachi 4:2
Sometimes life feels heavy. Maybe you have been walking through a challenging season. You are tired, discouraged, or wounded in ways no one else can see. In our key text, however, Malachi encourages believers to hold on, because the light is coming.
The Sun of Righteousness
The prophet lived at a time of wickedness. God has promised to deal with the arrogant sinners in the approaching “Day of the Lord.” However, for those who reverenced Him, a day of healing and joy was approaching.
God promises that for those who continue to honor and trust Him in all circumstances, He will rise like the sun after a long, dark night. Indeed, God will not just show up, but He will bring healing for your brokenness and weariness.
When God Brings Healing and Joy
He will also give you joy, the kind that makes you want to run, dance, and laugh again. God paints this picture of calves being let out of a stall, kicking up their heels in freedom. That is what His presence does. It restores your soul and reminds you what it means to really live.
Where do you need God’s healing light to shine in your life right now? Are you continuing to trust Him, even while you wait? What would it look like to live with the hope that healing and joy are on the way?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, sometimes life feels dark, and healing feels far away. Help me to keep trusting You. Heal the places in me that are hurting, and bring back my joy.
