When God Delays…

Daily Devotional—Sunday, April 6, 2025
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)

Whenever God seems to be taking too long to answer our prayers, we become impatient and question whether He has forgotten us. As we wait for answers, justice, healing, and the fulfillment of promises, we begin to despair. However, as our key text indicates, God is not slow. Rather, it is because of His mercy towards us that He is so patient.

The Lord is not Slack

Peter speaks to a church that is beginning to get tired of waiting for Jesus to come. The apostle emphasizes that God’s perceived delay is actually patience. He is allowing more time for human beings to seek Him out. He does not wish for anyone to die. His love for all people is what makes his heart beat.

God’s unfathomable mercy is the reason Christ hasn’t come back yet and why He may not have answered some petitions you have presented to Him. His goal is to provide ample grace rather than to hasten judgment. This is a Savior who longs to redeem, not a God who is eager to condemn.

When God Delays….

Are you feeling as if Christ has delayed His return? Examine your heart and see whether there are any obstacles hindering your relationship with God. Ask Him for forgiveness and faith to trust in His promises. God is patient, not slow, and His patience is our saving grace. When God delays, He has a reason, and that reason is your well-being and salvation.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I am grateful because Your delays are not denials but an expression of Your mercy and patience towards me.
