When God Demands an Account of Your Life

Daily Devotional – Friday, November 12, 2021

So then, each of us shall give account of himself to God

Romans 14:12 (NKJV)

In Luke 16:1-13, Jesus narrated the parable of the unjust steward. A report had reached a rich master that one of his servants was squandering money entrusted to him by his employer.

The wealthy man summoned the accused servant, saying, “What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.”  (Verse 2). A steward was supposed to be above reproach.

It was now the responsibility of the steward to present statements of account and supporting documents and materials to prove he was not guilty as accused. There was no time for elaborate preparation. The boss wanted the report urgently.

Similarly, in contemporary society, when an organization entrusts an employee with resources, it is normal to expect that worker to utilize the funds as directed. In addition, the employer can summon the manager at any moment to give a status report.

Since the employer allocates resources to accomplish pre-agreed targets, the accountability report must demonstrate efficient utilization of those resources. Such reports are mandatory at the end of the financial year or when the boss demands for them.

Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God

The Apostle Paul, while discussing the issue of Christians judging one another, observed, “For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.” (Romans 14:10). Paul looked forward to the day of reckoning when we must face our Creator and Lord.

The apostle continued, “So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.” (Romans 14:12). The day is coming when God will demand a report from each of us on how we will have used the resources He has entrusted to us.

We will account for the time, talents, children, spouses, money, wealth, speech, influence, life and other resources God has given us to manage. Will God commend us as faithful stewards? Will we look away in shame for being unfaithful managers?

If God asks you to give an account of the resources He has placed under you today, will you be proud of your report?

Lord Jesus, teach and help me to be Your faithful steward at all times.
