When God Puts a Hedge Around You

Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
Job 1:10 (NKJV)

In today’s key text, Satan questions God’s treatment of especially His provision and protection. The “hedge” that surrounds Job represents God’s heavenly defense, a barrier that keeps Job secure and successful. Satan understands that God’s favor and cautious protection are the true causes of Job’s prosperity and blessings, not only his own hard work.

Have You Not Hedged Him Around?

God is actively keeping an eye on His children. Even while God’s protection may not always appear as a physical hedge, we can have faith that He is keeping watch over us in a myriad of invisible ways. We are safe in His care, whether that safety takes the form of defense against danger, direction in our choices, or keeping us from giving in to temptation.

God is responsible for Job’s success and fortune. He is the source of all of our blessings, including our resources, jobs, families, and health. His will sustains us, hence we can enjoy abundance because of His grace. We develop an attitude of thankfulness rather than arrogance when we accept God’s part in our accomplishments.

When God Puts a Hedge Around You

Always keep in mind that God has put a protective hedge around you, even though you cannot always see it. Furthermore, even though your blessings may not seem like what you imagined, God is still blessing you. Express gratitude for His visible and invisible provision.

Almighty God, I am grateful for your numerous blessings and for erecting a hedge of safety around me.
