For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love, which you have shown toward His name…
Hebrews 6:10 (NKJV)
Joseph was a virtuous and helpful man. Yet, it appears as if God had forgotten him in the Egyptian dungeon. It had been two years now since God had used Joseph to predict the fates of two of the king’s servant who had been jailed.
Remember me When it is Well With You
After interpreting the chief butler’s dream, Joseph had pleaded, “But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house.” (Genesis 40:14).
Now as Joseph sat alone in the corner of the stinking prison, he wondered why the chief butler had forgotten him after Pharaoh had restored the latter to his elevated position in the palace. Why had God not reminded this man about Joseph?
Two Years of being Forgotten
If at this moment God would speak directly to Joseph, He would tell His servant, “… I am not unjust to forget your work and labor of love, which you have shown toward My Name…” (Hebrews 6:10).
Shortly after, the prison doors swung open. Joseph was ushered out and straight into the presence of Pharaoh. It had taken two years for the chief butler to remember him. That did not matter for now, though. Pharaoh needed and interpretation of his dream. The rest is history.
Remember me, my God
Like Joseph, we often experience moments of trials when God seems to have forgotten us. We wonder why God cannot remember our labours on His behalf. Like Nehemiah, we plead, “Remember me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.” (Nehemiah 5:19).
Thankfully, the God we serve does not forget our good deeds. In His chosen time, He intervenes on our behalf. He lifts up from the dungeon to the palace: from the dust to the throne. God does what only He can do.
When God Remembers Your Good Deeds
Whatever challenges you are facing today, remember it is only for a moment and for a divine purpose. In the fullness of time, your good deeds and labour of love will come for review before the Almighty. Your life will never be the same after that. Hang in there.
Prayer
Omnipotent God, I trust You because I know you will remember my good deeds and labours of love and intervene on my behalf, in Your own time.
