When God Smiles

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, March 6, 2024
The LORD make His face shine upon you.
Numbers 6:25 (NKJV)

Who doesn’t love a genuine, warm smile? Show me a person who does not smile back at a child, and I will show you the most negative individual on earth! The magic of a smile is that it conveys good will and noble intentions from the smiler.

When the Lord’s Face Shines Upon Us

Now, smiling is not something we associate with God. We often think God wears a stern face, always on the lookout for sinners to punish them. The idea that God can smile is unthinkable, but what does the Bible teach?

In ancient Israel, there was a special phrase for signifying God’s favourable facial expression when dealing with human beings. It is found in the priestly blessing that Aaron and his descendants administered: “The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26).

When God Smiles

When the Lord makes His face shine on His people, He is actually smiling at them. It denotes His joy and favour towards His people. God loves to bless His children, to show mercy to them, and to give them peace. That is what puts a smile on His face.

Do you know how you can make God smile today? Trust Him. Obey Him. Do good to all human beings. Live by all the truth God has revealed to you. In a world where rebellion against God is on the rise, gladden the heart of God and make Him smile.

Prayer
Almighty God, may my thoughts, actions, and speech make You smile.

Wow! God smiles? That’s new. If there’s a person I would ever want to make smile then I think it’s God.
