You have tested my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me and have found nothing. I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
Psalms 17:3 (NKJV)
There are many tests in life. Some are external, such as struggles, trials, and adversity. Others are internal, like when God Himself tests our hearts. David talks about being scrutinized by God. He wants to be found trustworthy and to have a pure heart before God.
You Have Tried Me
The psalmist admits that God has a profound understanding of him. Nothing, not even our plans, thoughts, or difficulties, is concealed from the Lord. The purpose of the Lord’s testing is to refine and bring us nearer to Himself, not to cause us damage.
Testing is about what we discover about ourselves, not only what God observes. Trials can occasionally reveal areas in which we need to improve or shortcomings in our faith. We ought to embrace these challenges as chances to grow closer to Christ rather than dreading them.
When God Tests Your Heart
David declares, “I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress,” in response to God’s test. He chooses to live a moral life on purpose. Being holy is not something that just happens; it takes a heart that has purposed to obey and respect God in all that one says and does.
When God tests your heart, what will he find in it? Would He perceive trust, love, and faithfulness, or uncertainty, concern, and compromise? Thank God, Christ is always ready to transform us. Surrender every aspect of your life to Him today, and He will do the rest.
Prayer
Dear God, test my heart and weed out my sin. Empower me to lead a life that encourages others to follow You.
