The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands…
Judges 7:2 (NKJV)
Gideon organized an army of 32 thousand men to fight the Midianites and their allies. In contrast, the enemy had 135,000 soldiers (v. 8).
How surprised was Gideon, then, when God said, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands.” (v. 2). Gideon announced that those who feared should return home. Twenty-two thousand men are left.
God was not done yet. Another test eliminated 9,700. “By the three hundred men… I will save you and deliver the Midianites into your hand,” God said (v. 7). Indeed, God used that small group to deliver victory to Israel.
Why did God reduce the number of Israel’s warriors so drastically? “Lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me’” (v. 2). God often allows us to operate from a point of helplessness so that we value His role in our lives.
The privileges you enjoy today are not because you are the smartest, most intelligent, or most suitable. It is by the grace of God that you have that job, position, excellent grades, and a good life.
When you recall where God has brought you from and the battles He has fought for you, you will agree with Him that it is “not by might nor by power, but by His Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6) that you are alive, healthy, and thriving.
Going forward, realize that the more helpless you feel without God, the more He comes to your rescue and prospers you.
God, remind me to rely fully on you and not on my strength or wisdom.
Most a times we rely on our own self after we become weary that’s when God would intervene.
It’s not wise to a Christian to become weary for God to come in, rather to start with God always.
Very powerful today.
Amen, Pastor. Be blessed.
