When Inaction Is the Right Action

Daily Devotional – Saturday, April 27, 2024
Let both grow together until the harvest.
Matthew 13:30 (NKJV)

In life, action is necessary for progress. Did you know, however, that there are circumstances in which inaction is the right action? A diligent farmer sows good seed in his field, but the enemy comes at night and plants tares (weeds that closely resemble wheat).

Sit Back and Watch

Later, when the farmer’s servants discover the anomaly and ask to uproot the tares, he declines, saying, “Lest while you gather up the tares, you also uproot the wheat with them.” (Matthew 13:29). Instead, he says, “Let both grow together until the harvest.” (Verse 30).

In essence, this farmer instructs his concerned workers not to act. Some life challenges require inaction. When you have done your best and things still do not go your way, stop struggling and leave everything to God. Sometimes ‘no action’ is the right action.

When Inaction Is the Right Action

When we have prayed honestly and earnestly for healing, for a job or financial breakthrough, or for the salvation of a loved one, but God seems to ignore us, let us relax and wait for ‘the time of harvest’, when God will separate right and wrong. If we take shortcuts, we worsen our circumstances and interfere with God’s process of blessing us.

When God finally answers our prayers, we will appreciate why He sometimes asks us to stop fretting and leave everything to Him. However, to sit back and wait for the Lord when fires are burning around us is not easy. We must ask God for faith and patience, and we must accept that there are moments when inaction is the right action.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to know when I should stop acting and trust You to win my battles.
