When Love Becomes Our Guiding Principle

Daily Devotional – Friday, September 26, 2025
Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 13:10 (NKJV)

A young boy once borrowed his neighbor’s bicycle without asking. He rode it until the chain snapped. Instead of admitting what had happened, he quietly returned the bike, hoping no one would notice. The neighbor later found it broken. What stung most was not the damage. It was the broken trust.

Choosing Love in Everyday Decisions

When the boy finally confessed, the neighbor forgave him and gently said, “If you had thought about me first, you might have made a different choice.” That simple reminder stayed with him: real love always looks out for others.

This is the gist of today’s key text. Love sums up all of God’s commands. Rules against lying, stealing, or hurting others are not just for keeping order. They protect people. When love guides our hearts, we don’t look for ways to bend the rules; we look for ways to bless others.

Love is more than words or warm feelings. It shows itself when we act in honesty when it is tempting to hide, in patience when people frustrate us, and in kindness when someone is struggling. Love asks, “Will this action help or hurt the person in front of me?”

When Love Becomes Our Guiding Principle

Jesus showed us what perfect love looks like. He touched those others avoided, forgave those others condemned, fed those who were hungry, and gave His life for us. His love fulfilled the law completely.

As His followers, we are called to let that same love shape how we live. Every day gives us opportunities to heal instead of harm, to build trust instead of breaking it, and to reflect Jesus instead of ourselves.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me to love like You love. Help me think of others before myself, speak words that build up, and choose actions that bring healing.
