When Small Things Become Sacred

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, August 20, 2025
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV)

We often think that God only cares about the “big” spiritual stuff, for example, when we pray, read the Bible, or go to church. Granted, these activities have their place in spiritual growth, but Paul flips that idea on its head. ‘Small’ things can also be sacred.

Whatever You Do

The apostle asserts that even the most ordinary parts of our lives, like eating lunch, having a conversation, or doing chores, can be acts of worship if we do them with the right heart. God wants to be in both the ‘big’ and ‘small’ stuff.

The way you treat a co-worker, how you talk to your kids, the effort you put into your work, and even the way you spend your free time can all be done in a way that shines a light on God. This is the mindset we need to bring into our daily lives.

When Small Things Become Sacred

When we stop living just to make ourselves look good and instead aim to point back to Him, suddenly even small things matter. Washing dishes becomes service. A smile becomes encouragement. A simple meal becomes Thanksgiving.

Is there something in your daily routine that you usually see as “just ordinary”? How might you approach it differently if you considered it to be a way to honor God? Let the so-called small things in your life be sacred, designed to glorify God.

Prayer
Almighty God, help me see every part of my life as a chance to bring You glory. Teach me to live with You at the center, even in the small and ordinary things.
