When We Have Fellowship With God…

Daily Devotional – Thursday, March 27, 2025
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
1 John 1:6 (NKJV)

As Christ-followers, we frequently express how much we love Him and intend to emulate Him. Our main text, however, asks us to consider whether our words and deeds are consistent. Is our fellowship with Him contradicted by dark parts of our existence, or do we genuinely walk in the light?

Walking in Darkness

The apostle John warns that living in sin and having a connection with God is self-deception. A life that is incompatible with God’s truth—one of concealed sin, compromise, or disobedience—is symbolized as walking in darkness. On the other hand, the Lord wants us to live in righteousness, love, and truth.

God wants our relationship with Him to be genuine. Fellowship with Christ is more than mere profession. It entails representing His holiness in a world of sin. If we fall into sin, God covers us with His grace, but we have to be prepared to leave the darkness and enter the light of repentance and change.

When We Have Fellowship With God…

Do you have fellowship with God? Do your thoughts, words, and actions attest to your assertion? Can those who live and interact with you regularly attest that you walk in the light? If you are not practicing the truth as you should, how do you want God to help you? When we have fellowship with God, we will walk in the light and not in darkness.

Prayer
Almighty God, I want to have fellowship with You and to walk in the light. Reveal to me my areas of weakness and help me to reject sin.
