If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
John 14:14 (NKJV)
In today’s key text, Jesus makes one of the most exquisite promises in the Bible. In the modern context, we would say that Jesus gives us a blank cheque. All He requires us to do is to write the amount we want.
I Will Do It
This promise has no limit. We are not constrained by God. So long as our intentions align with God’s will, we can do anything we concentrate our minds on. Nothing is forbidden. We can excel in academics, careers, athletics, the arts, and the sciences.
This realisation begs the question, “Are you restricting God and so restricting yourself? Have you set boundaries for what you can achieve in this life? Are the resources and skills that God has given me reflected in the life you lead?”
This assurance does have a catch, though. Observe Jesus’ requirement that we make our requests “in My name.”. As long as you ask in Jesus’ name, you have access to everything. If you want God to hear your prayers, you have to pass this test.
When You Hinder Your Prayers
When you make requests in Jesus’ name, they don’t go against what He has commanded. It means that everything we ask for will, both immediately and over time, exalt God. For instance, you cannot beg God to grant you the resources and capacity to hurt yourself or other people.
Is it possible that you are the hindrance because your desires are not in tandem with His will? Seek God’s guidance to identify areas in your life that require alignment with His will.
Prayer
Loving Father, please show me how to pray sincerely in your Name and not limit You in my life.
