When You Pass Through the Waters

Daily Devotional – Sunday, August 5, 2024
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned.
Isaiah 43:2 (NKJV)

A powerful assurance of God’s constant presence and protection can be found in Isaiah 43:2. The difficulties we encounter in life are eloquently represented by the images of rivers, lakes, and fire. God’s promise tells us that nothing will defeat us when we are in God.

When You Walk Through the Fire

Think of the water as a metaphor for the struggles and obstacles that occasionally seem like they may drown us. The rivers can be strong and rapid, signifying abrupt, formidable barriers that are seemingly unmanageable. Fire represents the agonizing events and tremendous pressures we face that can be fierce and all-consuming.

God promises to be with us while we overcome these obstacles. This is an active and guardian presence rather than a passive one. He is with us in our own struggles, just as He was with the Israelites throughout their exodus, guiding them through the Red Sea and keeping them safe.

When You Pass Through the Waters

We are not alone when we feel overpowered by life’s challenges. God’s protection makes sure that even in the face of seemingly insurmountable problems, we won’t be destroyed. The Lord promises that even under the most terrible and excruciating circumstances, the trouble will not consume us.

Consider for a second any difficulties you might be going through right now. In these circumstances, how can you remind yourself of God’s promise? Let this assurance to bolster your faith and provide you comfort in the knowledge that you are not alone in your struggle, no matter how great.

Prayer
Almighty God, remind us of Your protection when we encounter powerful rivers, strong fires, and overpowering floods.
