Daily Devotional – Tuesday, September 22, 2026
Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come because of your words.”
Daniel 10:12 (NKJV)
Daniel had spent three weeks mourning and fasting as he sought to understand the future of his people. He was beside the Tigris River when a heavenly messenger appeared before him. The sight overwhelmed him, and he lost his strength. Daniel had walked with God for many years, yet he still had questions that troubled him. He brought those questions to God and waited. He had no idea what was happening beyond what he could see.
The Hidden Battle Behind Daniel’s Prayer
Then the messenger told Daniel something he desperately needed to hear. God had heard his prayer from the first day. The delay had not meant that heaven ignored him. The messenger explained that the prince of Persia had resisted him for twenty-one days. Michael then came to his aid, allowing the messenger to continue his journey to Daniel. Daniel had spent those same three weeks waiting on God. While Daniel waited on earth, a conflict he could not see had taken place in the spiritual realm.
Look at what Daniel was doing when God answered him. He had set his heart to understand, and he had humbled himself before God. Daniel wanted to understand what God was doing with his people, and he approached God with humility rather than demanding his own answer. That matters because God did not say He had just heard Daniel. He said he had heard him from the first day. Daniel had already been heard before he received any visible sign that God had responded.
When Your Prayer Seems Unanswered
You know how difficult waiting can feel when you have prayed about something that matters deeply to you. You may keep asking God for wisdom about your family, your work, your future, or a situation you cannot control. Days pass, and nothing seems different. Daniel reminds us that what we see tells only part of the story. God can be working beyond what you can see while you continue with your ordinary responsibilities and keep bringing the matter to Him.
When the answer seems slow, keep praying. Continue reading Scripture. Don’t stop asking God for wisdom. Meanwhile, remain humble before Him. Daniel did not receive the explanation on the first day, but God heard him on that same day. You can hold on to that truth when silence begins to trouble you. You may not know what God is doing while you wait, yet you can continue seeking Him with confidence because He has already heard you.
Prayer
Almighty God, help me to trust You when I have prayed and still cannot see an answer. Teach me to be patient and humble and to continue seeking You.
