When Your Tears Speak to God

Daily Devotional – Monday, October 20, 2025
Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll. Are they not in your record?
Psalm 56:8 (NIV)

Have you ever felt like no one understands what you are going through? Like your pain is invisible to the world? I once read about a young woman who lost her job, her health, and her closest friend in the same year. Every night she would cry herself to sleep, feeling unseen and forgotten.

God Keeps Track of Every Tear

One day, however, as she read Psalm 56:8, she realized that God had been watching and recording every tear she had shed. That truth changed everything for her.

David, the writer of this psalm, knew that feeling all too well. He went from being a shepherd boy to a national hero after defeating Goliath, yet his victory turned into a nightmare when King Saul began to hunt him down. Forced to live in caves and foreign lands, David felt like a fugitive with no safe place to rest. Still, he found comfort in knowing that God was keeping track of his wanderings and his tears.

When Your Tears Speak to God

What a powerful image this is! God keeps our tears in His bottle and writes down our sorrows in His book. It means that none of our pain escapes His notice. Every sleepless night, every heartbreak, and every whispered prayer is seen and remembered by Him.

Like David, you can be sure that your struggles are not in vain. God is not ignoring you. He is recording your pain with compassion and will respond in His perfect time. When life feels unbearable, remember that your tears are not wasted. They are precious to the One who cares deeply for you.

Prayer
Loving Father, thank You for seeing every tear I cry and for remembering my pain. Help me to trust that You will bring comfort and healing in Your perfect time.
