Where Real Greatness Begins

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, November 19, 2025
Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations who will hear about all these decrees and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’
Deuteronomy 4:6 (NIV)

A young farmer once joined a training program where experts taught simple practices that could improve his harvest. Within a season, his farm produced more than anyone expected. Neighbours began asking for advice, amazed at the wisdom he seemed to possess. His success came from doing what he had been taught.

The Path the World Ignores

People often define greatness as wealth, influence, or fame. Many admire those who appear successful because they assume such individuals have everything figured out. Celebrities, athletes, and powerful leaders are celebrated because society believes greatness comes from achievement, money, or popularity.

Yet the Bible presents a different perspective. When Moses addressed the Israelites, he explained that true greatness came from obeying God’s word. He said that if they followed God’s laws, other nations would see their understanding and call them a wise and great people. Their greatness was not rooted in power or riches but in their commitment to God’s instructions.

Where Real Greatness Begins

The same principle remains true today. Wisdom and understanding grow in the lives of those who read, reflect on, and obey Scripture. Greatness is the natural result of living by divine principles. It shapes character, guides decisions, and influences how we work, study, and relate to others.

Instead of chasing greatness through riches or fame, choose the sure path God offers. When our lives align with His word, others will notice the wisdom and stability it produces. God often adds success and provision as He chooses, but the foundation is always obedience.

Prayer
Father, help me seek greatness Your way. Teach me to love, study, and obey Your word every day.
