In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.
Proverbs 12:28 (NIV)
Where can we find abundant life and immortality? Our key text contains hints. This lovely assurance declares that doing the right thing brings about true life, both here on earth and in the hereafter. This fact invites us to consider the decisions we make on a daily basis.
The Way of Righteousness
Righteousness is living in accordance with God’s nature and will. It involves adopting a connection with God that changes our hearts and behaviors. We feel a sense of fulfillment and purpose beyond the physical world when we embrace righteousness.
The “life” that this scripture talks of is a vibrant, abundant life, not just the state of being. Walking in justice makes God’s creation more beautiful to us, strengthens our bonds with one another, and gives us the ability to remain joyful despite adversity.
Where to Find Life and Immortality
The assurance of eternity supports the decisions we make from an eternal standpoint. The road of righteousness affects our lives right now and gives us hope that there is life after this one. As followers of Christ, we are obligated to live in the awareness that the consequences of our deeds and loyalty during this life will last forever.
Never forget that each step you take in faith brings you closer to God. Pray to God for discernment and courage to live a moral life. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you make decisions that please God and are consistent with His nature. You can find abundant life and immortality in the righteousness that only Jesus can bestow upon you.

Dear God, thank You for bestowing Your righteousness on me. Now I am assured of an honorable life and immortality.
