Where Would You Rather Be?

Daily Devotional – Saturday, August 9, 2025
For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Psalms 84:10 (NKJV)

The Sons of Korah were doorkeepers and singers in the temple. That is why they wrote songs that we find in the book of Psalms. More importantly, they did not consider their work as drudgery. In fact, they would rather be in the presence of God than somewhere else.

I Would Rather be a Doorkeeper

These musicians assert that nothing in life can compare to being with God. Even the most ordinary position in His presence is more valuable than the highest position in a place far from Him. Proximity to God brings joy, peace, and security to those who surrender to Him, something they can never experience elsewhere.

We live in a world that constantly tells us to chase money, fame, and comfort. These things can look attractive, but eventually, they cannot fill the emptiness inside. One real moment with God, whether in prayer, in worship, or in quiet reflection, is worth more than years of chasing what the world offers.

Where Would You Rather Be?

When we truly believe this, our priorities change. Time with God becomes the highlight of our day, not a task to check off. Even the smallest opportunity to serve Him becomes an honor. The “tents of wickedness” may sparkle from a distance, but they can never give what God’s presence offers: true rest, purpose, and joy. Where would you rather be?

Prayer
Almighty God, help me to treasure every moment with You. May I always choose Your presence over worldly pleasures, and may serving You be my greatest joy.
