He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
John 9:25 (NKJV)
Of all the miracles Jesus performed, perhaps the most controversy is in John chapter 9. To begin with, Jesus restores the sight of the man born blind in a rather unusual manner.
“He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.” (John 9:6-7).
Whether He is a Sinner or Not I Do Not Know
Irrespective of the method or process of healing, one would expect gratitude and rejoicing from the family and community. These ones are not in the mood. Some even doubt whether the healed man is the bling beggar they knew before.
When the Pharisees receive information about the healing, they try to persuade the man to disown Jesus, whom they consider a sinner, who cannot heal anyone.
The former blind man will hear none of this. “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” (John 9:25). Eventually, the Pharisees excommunicate the man from the synagogue.
You are the Only Jesus Some People Know
People may not know the Bible exhaustively. They may be blind to church doctrines, but they will never forget the good works we do for them. People may talk negatively about our faith but our charitable deeds will win them for Christ.
For many people, you are the only Jesus they have ever met. When you touch their physical and spiritual needs, they will be attracted to God. When people encounter the real Jesus in you, Satan will find it hard to shake their faith.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me touch the practical needs hence lead them to You, the source of life and salvation.
Amen
