Which Season Are You In?

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, February 20, 2024
…a time to tear and a time to me.
Ecclesiastes 3:7 (NKJV)

Which season are you in? As a parent, I know how to deal with a wayward child while wearing a stern face. As they undertake difficult, uninteresting, or undesirable tasks following their mischief, they must wonder whether I really love them.

A Time to Tear and a Time to Mend

On the other hand, once the punishment is done, it is time to reconcile. My face assumes an aura of love, kindness, and happiness. The pain is forgotten. I hope that the young ones understand that I love them and that my reaction is actually an expression of love.

King Solomon describes this family experience when he says there is “a time to tear and a time to mend.” (Ecclesiastes 3:7). Life consists of seasons. We cannot have everything go our way every time. We must accept criticism and commendation alike.

Which Season Are You in?

Life has its seasons, too. Whenever we go astray, God, our Father, uses His rod and staff to bring us back. Some of us complain and lament, and we wonder why a loving God can be so harsh with His children. Nevertheless, when our chastisement is complete and He embraces us again, we realize that joy and pain are part of the equation of life.

As long as we are on earth, we will experience tearing and mending. Which season are you in? Is God rending or fixing you? How are you responding? Learn to appreciate the ripping and repairing moments because they are God-ordained expressions of His love, irrespective of your feelings about them.

Prayer
Dear God, whether You are tearing or mending me, teach me to remain faithful and grateful.
