So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
Genesis 3:10 (NKJV)
Why are you hiding from God? According to an anonymous person, “Sin will keep you away from God, while God will keep you away from sin.” Every sincere Christian will admit that this statement is accurate. God and sin cannot coexist. One must give way to the other.
Adam Hides from his Creator
Our father, Adam, was the epitome of this reality on the day he and Eve rebelled against God. After God’s glory had departed from them, they realized they were naked. They sewed together fig leaves for clothing.
When they heard the sound of God walking in Eden, they hid from Him in the trees of the garden. We can deduce that God used to visit Eden and have communion with our first parents but this time, instead of running to welcome God, the pair hid from Him.
I Hid Myself
Therefore, when God asked Adam where he was, Adam replied, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” (Genesis 3:10). Adam went into hiding because of sin. In his sinful status, he could not stand before God.
We are not different from Adam. Even among believers, whenever we realize we have sinned, we tend to run away from the presence of God. For example, we may stop going to church, reading the Bible or listening to any religious content, because we fear that God will condemn and punish us.
Why Are You Hiding From God?
Notice, though, God who went after Adam, not the other way round. He loves humanity so much that He runs after us, pleading with us to return to Him. Thus, instead of hiding from God, we should come out and accept the forgiveness God offers to each of His wayward children.
Why are you hiding from God? He hates your sin not you. Do not waste your time in guilt and regrets. It will not help you. Return to God and He will clothe you with His garment of righteousness. God has already taken the first step. Start walking towards Him and start a new life of righteousness.
Prayer
Almighty Father, I am cannot continue hiding any more. Take my burden of sin and guilt away and give me You garment of righteousness.
