Why Do You Judge Your Brother?

Daily Devotional – Saturday, April 16, 2022
But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Romans 14:10 (NKJV)

When Jesus and His disciples saw a man born blind, the twelve asked, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:2). Jesus’ followers associated every misfortune with sin, either by the individual or by a close relative.

Like the disciples, we can easily fall into the trap of playing God. We think we know enough of a person to judge them. Because others appear to be faring badly, we conclude we are better than they before God are.

Who is the Greatest?

He lost his job. He must have a hidden sin. She is unwell because she is not a faithful tither. Her children stopped coming to church because she is a bad mother. If only he followed the same religious beliefs as I did, he would not be suffering. He is in pain because he is a sinner. I am thriving because I am more faithful to God.

Unfortunately, we have no idea whatsoever why these individuals are going through tough times. God may have allowed them to go through the fiery furnace to strengthen their faith.

Why Do You Judge Your Brother?

Paul asks, “But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.” (Romans 14:10).

Each of us is answerable to God for the truth He has revealed to us, and how faithfully we follow it. It is not our work to judge others. We must leave that to God. Rather, we should pray for one another that God would grant us the grace to inherit His kingdom.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me to love others instead of judging them.
