Why Don’t You Care, Jesus?

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, March 27, 2024
And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Mark 4:38 (NKJV)

In our journey of faith, there will be moments when the storms will be so strong that we will wonder whether Jesus really cares about us. It is during such times that we must ask Jesus to reveal Himself and calm the troubles that threaten to sink us.

Are You So Heartless?

Consider the day Jesus slept in a boat while a storm was brewing. His disciples, some of them seasoned fishermen, feared greatly. Unable to entertain the Master’s indifference any longer, the disciples woke Him up, asking, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” (Mark 4:38).

How often do we, contemporary disciples, utter the same desperate cry? An illness bogs you down and threatens to wipe away your savings. A business deal has gone sour, and your business has collapsed. Your most-important relationships are on the brink. The job you relied upon is no more.

Why Don’t You Care, Jesus?

In your desperation, you find yourself asking Jesus, “Where are you? Why don’t you care, Jesus, that I am suffering? Why are you silent as my enemies oppress me? How long will I call upon you while you keep silent? Save me before it is too late!”

Before your tears dry up, the Master orders your problems, “Peace, be still!” (Mark 4:39), and just like that, your situation changes for the better. Yes, Jesus cares about you. Indeed, even when He keeps quiet, He is working behind the scenes to rescue you. Keep trusting Him, because He will soon calm the storms in your life.

Prayer
Thank You, Jesus, because You care about me even when troubles assail me.
