Why Fear is Not an Option

Daily Devotional – Monday, November 7, 2022
The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

When a cat is cornered and has no way of escape, it fights back. It will not go down without resistance. The person blocking the animal’s escape route is likely to suffer. At this point, fear is not an option for the cat.

Reasons for Trepidation

Joshua may not have been in mortal danger, but he was trapped like a cat. Moses, the great leader, was about to exit the scene. God had chosen Joshua to assume leadership of the Israelites in the final push for the Promised Land.

While Joshua was a renowned warrior, the task ahead was not easy. For a start, the people he was to lead were rebellious. In fact, they once wanted to stoned him and Caleb, when the two spies defied the other ten, and stated that Canaan was conquerable.

Be Strong and Courageous

Secondly, the nations in Canaan were powerful and war-hardened. They were ready to defend their lands against Israel using their chariots and superior weaponry. From a military point of view, the Canaanites had nothing to worry about from the former slaves.

God, however, gave Joshua no option for fear. Through Moses, and in front of the Israelites, God told the new leader, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance.” (Deuteronomy 31:7).

Choose Courage

From this mission, there was no retreat for Joshua. God, though, does not send His servants on missions without making necessary provisions. Moses promised Joshua, “The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Verse 8).

What a beautiful promise! God would not only lead the battle from the front, He would fight alongside Joshua.

Why Fear is not an Option

The God of Joshua knows the challenges you are facing today in your path to fulfilling your life’s purpose. God’s message to Joshua is yours too: “I, the LORD, goes before you and will be with you. I will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

You battles are tough but fear is not an option. Instead of chickening out, be strong. Take courage and face life with the assurance that God is already fighting your battles. If you remain faithful, God will lead you to your destiny.

Prayer

Almighty Father, thank You because You are fighting my battles and fear is not an option for me.

2 Timothy 1:7
[7]For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Maana Mungu hakutupa roho ya woga, bali ya nguvu na ya upendo na ya moyo wa kiasi.

Philip Mutua

While we are walking through the hardships of the world, we may fear if at all we will make it through. But why fear if God has promised to be on our side? There is nothing to fear, we can walk through the wilderness and prevail, through the fire but it does not burn us, on water and we can’t drown.. only if we trust on him.

Solomon mwangi

Everyday we are assured God is with us to overcome fear and uncertainty about our future.
