And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV)
Rivers exist to bless human beings, animals and plants. Even in the harshest drought, trees along a river remain green. People and animals travel long distances to reach the river for nourishment.
The river flows downstream yet it does not run dry. It does not complain for being a channel of blessing to others. As the water flows, it gives life and joy to everything on its path.
On the other hand, a flooded river is dangerous to people, animals and property. You have to dig trenches to drain flooded areas. Once water starts flowing, life gradually returns to normal.
In Second Corinthians 9, Paul encouraged Christians to give for the work of God, especially supporting the needy. To those who feared that giving would make them poor, the Apostle wrote,
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
Over and above your needs
In essence, God gives us more than we need so that we have enough for ourselves and for charity. Our Father does not expect us to give what He has not given us. If God wants you to give a dollar to the needy, He will give you more than one dollar. As long as you give that extra dollar, you will have a constant supply.
The life of a Christian is similar to that of a river. God created us to be givers. We are God’s channel for blessing others. As we nourish others, we too are nourished. If we pile blessings, we will be flooded and dangerous.
Is there a person you can release your extra blessings to? Remember, you have to give in order to receive.
Almighty Father, help me be the channel through which others receive Your blessings.
Do you think modern Christians are giving enough and generously to the needy? Leave your comment after reading, please.
