Why Heroes of Faith are yet to Receive their Crowns

Daily Devotional – Thursday, October 7, 2021

And all these… did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

Hebrews 11:39-40 (NKJV)

You are tired and hungry after a long trek. You arrived first. The rest of the trekkers are miles away. No one is sure when they will arrive. The food is ready but you cannot start eating. Everyone must arrive first.

This often happens in families and teams. Waiting for everyone to come to the table before serving is a sign of love and concern for all members of the family.

We find this philosophy in Hebrews Chapter 11, where the heroes of faith are celebrated. After praising the faith and perseverance of the men and women of God, the author concludes in an unusual manner.

“And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.” (Hebrews 11:39-40).

They fought a good fight. They kept the faith, but God told them to wait a little longer for their crowns. Why did the party have to wait? Had they not done enough to deserve the accolades?

God had a good reason for His action – you. Heaven is waiting for you to be a hero of faith. When Christ returns, all heroes of faith will receive their crowns. You are so important; Abel, Abraham, Moses, David, Peter, Paul and Co. are waiting for you to join the party.

Almighty Father, thank You for giving me a chance to be a hero of faith. Work in me to will and to do according to Your perfect Will.
