For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 (NKJV)
All around us are demands and reasons to be generous. There is a person who is poorer than you are in one way or the other. If you are more blessed, you can be the channel through which other people receive their blessings.
The most famous and most memorized verse in the Bible must be John 3:16. This is not surprising because it summarizes the Gospel message and the plan of salvation. This verse also teaches about giving.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16). God’s love is not demonstrated in mere words. Divine love is sacrificial in nature. Because God LOVED, He GAVE.
The essence of loving is giving. When we love God, we give ourselves to Him because He gave Himself for us. If we truly love God, we will give our material wealth to relieve the suffering of the needy.
A portion of the money in your pocket is meant for a beggar. A sick person will be relieved if you donate for his medication. A school dropout will resume learning when you pay her tuition. Because of your generosity, a starving family will have a meal.
If you have no material things to give, encourage others. Be with them in their times of need. Pray and sing with them. Give them that genuine warm and reassuring smile. Whatever you do, give something pure and genuine to those you love.
Prayer
Father, thank You for demonstrating Your love through giving. Teach me how to do the same in my community.
Which other verses about giving can you add to this devotional for the benefit of all readers?
I am happy to know God loved me so much that He gave His Jesus to die for me. Help me God to love others genuinely and practically.
Amen, Erastus. God bless you.
