Why We Should Rejoice

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, March 26, 2024
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything, give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NKJV)

Joy can feel unattainable in a world that is sometimes tainted by hardships. However, we are obligated to welcome joy as a crucial component of our spiritual journey as Christians. Joy is an enduring sense of confidence and satisfaction derived from our relationship with God. That is why God wants us to rejoice always.

Our Source of Joy

Despite their difficult situation, Paul and Silas sang happily and gave thanks to God while they were in prison. Similarly, when we focus on God’s undisputable nature, we too can feel a joy that surpasses circumstances.

Joy is the decision to accept God’s everlasting promises and look beyond the fleeting world rather than rejecting reality. It’s recognizing life’s storms and reaffirming the existence of the One who tames the storms. Despite difficulties and uncertainty, joy arises from the knowledge that God is in control and that everything works out for our benefit.

Why We Should Rejoice

Our delight as Christ’s disciples is Spirit-infused rather than self-generated. It results from realizing how much God loves us and how Jesus Christ has redeemed us. We enjoy the abundance of His grace and are filled with joy because of Him, who has made us right with God.

Let us choose joy today—not as a passing feeling, but as a firm belief based on the undeniable reality of God’s Word. May we live as a living example of the transformative power of joy found in Jesus Christ, illuminating a world in desperate need of His hope and love.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I will rejoice because you live in me, and nothing can happen to me that you cannot handle.
