Why You May Need Heart Surgery

Whenever I hear someone is to undergo heart surgery, my heart skips. There is a human tendency to expect the worst. However, for many people, this medical procedure offers a second chance to live.  

Humans, too, need spiritual heart surgery every now and then. In Jeremiah 17:9, we read “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” (NKJV).

Paul adds, “the carnal mind is enmity against God.  So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:8 (NKJV). How, then, can the human mind (heart) be made right with God? The solution is spiritual heart surgery.

Without Christ, your heart is stony in nature. The Spirit of God cannot dwell in your mind. You cannot obey the law of God. God offers to operate on you, to remove the heart of stone and replace it with a heart of flesh.

For the new heart to thrive, God fills you with His Holy Spirit. He also writes His law in your mind (Jeremiah 31:33). Consequently, you obey God’s commandment out of love. This heart of flesh is in harmony with God’s will.

Do you feel like your heart is unclean and your motives are impure? Do you feel trapped by sin and helpless? You need spiritual heart surgery. Do you know someone who is struggling with sin? Ask God to give them a new heart of flesh.

Father, give me a new heart today. Renew Your Spirit within me.
