Why You Must Create Time for You

Daily Devotional – Monday, July 26, 2021

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.

Luke 10:41 (NKJV)

A few weeks ago, I realized I was gradually becoming unproductive. I had been sleeping late and waking up early. One evening, I could not take it anymore. My mind was blank; my body sore.

I had been busy serving people at work and in the society. Those I served were happy. Only one person was drained, miserable and disappointed – me.

Then I remembered the story of Martha in Luke 10:38-42. Martha is busy preparing delicacies for Jesus and other guests. Her sister, Mary, sits at the feet of Jesus, listening keenly.

The exhausted Martha tells Jesus, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” (v. 40). I would have done the same if I were in Martha’s position.

Jesus replies, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things” (v. 41). How often am I like Martha, troubled about how to make others happy, at my expense?

Martha was exhausted but no one seemed to notice. Jesus had a solution. He said, “But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (v. 42).

Mary made the right decision.  While serving others is good, we need to spend quality individual time with Jesus. Find time to study the Bible, pray, mediate and praise God.

Often, withdraw from the crowd and be with Jesus and yourself. This will rejuvenate you. It will also give you motivation to serve others again. You need time for you.

Lord Jesus, remind me to find time for personal nourishment.

Most a times we worried of earthly things, little do we know they are of short while.
The Bible says, food is for stomach and stomach for food but both will be finished one day.
We should cultivate for eternal things by setting our minds to Christ and forgetting whatever is for short while.
