So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
Salvation begins with faith according to the famous John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Paul affirms this truth when he writes, “…for by grace you have been saved through faith.” (Ephesians 2:8).
What, then, is faith? “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1).
The Gift of Faith
o critical is faith that, “…without faith it is impossible to please Him (God)….” (Hebrews 11:6).
How do we acquire faith? Ephesians 2:8 reads in full, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Both salvation and faith are gifts from God.
More specifically, “… faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17). The gift of faith is wrapped up using the pages of the Bible.
As we interact with Jesus in the Bible, the Holy Spirit will soften our hearts and quicken our senses to accept divine truth. The more we study God’s word, the more our faith will increase.
Why You Must Study and Live By the Word of God
Reading the scripture daily is akin to asking Jesus to “Increase our faith.” (Luke 17:5). God actualizes salvation in our lives as we read the scripture. Jesus prayed to the Father, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” (John 17:17).
Now that you know how important faith is in your salvation and spiritual growth, study the Bible more often, deeply and prayerfully.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, create in me an intense desire to study and live by Your word.
Amen, May God give me a hunger for the word. For we shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceed from the mouth of the lord.
True, Doc. We need that hunger for us to grow spiritually.
Why should we also study the word of God,
Besides increasing our faith.
All books can be subject to change but the bible.
The word of God can also help us overcome sin. ( psalms 119:9)How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your it’s got protective power( Proverbs:30.5
“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.) and redemptive power able to save.Because it testifies of Christ mighty power to save. (John:5.39
You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,)
The word of God can also makes us wise, it’s a source if wisdom to Christians.(2 Timothy:3.15…which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.)
